About the Competition
How can an existing material be transformed into something completely new?
The Young Designers Competition is a creative project where participants rethink existing clothing and textile materials, transforming them into new designer pieces.
Participants work with materials provided by exhibitors of Heimtextil Uzbekistan, Texworld Tashkent, and ApparelSourcing Tashkent, demonstrating how an existing product can be given a new form, function, and story.

The Female Rage collection is inspired by the culture and traditions of our people, which have not always had a positive impact on women’s lives.
Drawing on my own experience of growing up within this cultural environment, I transformed these traditions into visual symbols of restriction: golden cage-like structures, veils, and spikes represent confinement, concealment, and self-protection.
Through the use of black, red, and gold, I sought to express emotions that women are often forced to hide, transforming the weight of tradition and silence into a language of resistance and inner strength.

The Parcha collection is inspired by the kurpacha, a traditional Uzbek quilted mattress made from fabric scraps. This object is closely connected to my grandmother, who taught me to appreciate craftsmanship and the importance of reusing materials.
Inspired by the popularity of patchwork in 19th-century Britain, I combined 19th-century silhouettes with the traditional Uzbek kurpacha, bringing together my personal cultural heritage and history.

TUGUN (Uzbek for “knot” or “interweaving”) is a collection inspired by the knots we carry in our minds, bodies, and everyday lives.
Reflecting on my habit of playing with threads when I feel overwhelmed or when my thoughts become tangled, I translated this idea into clothing through knotting techniques, layering, and macramé. Simple materials are given a new interpretation.
Rather than seeing every knot as something that must be untied, TUGUN explores the possibility of embracing it and creating something meaningful from it.

Trace of Touch is a collection inspired by an antique chekich, a traditional Uzbek bread-stamping tool that has been kept in my family for more than 80 years.
It was used by my great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother to prepare traditional Uzbek bread. Today, it remains a cherished symbol of my family’s history and a memory passed down through generations.
I wanted to bring this story into contemporary fashion and show how traces of handmade craftsmanship can continue to live on, taking on a new form.

BECOMING is a project that explores identity as an ongoing process of becoming, shaped by memory, experience, and life circumstances.
Through asymmetry, deconstruction, unfinished forms, transparency, and transforming silhouettes, I explore how the past leaves its traces without determining our future.
The jellyfish becomes the key symbol of the collection, representing the ability to adapt, move, and transform while remaining true to oneself.

Reinforced Memory (BUNT) explores the intersection of traditional Uzbek heritage and the rebellious spirit of punk culture.
The collection asks a question: Can rebellion protect tradition?
Bringing together two seemingly opposing sides of culture, the collection creates something new and offers a different perspective on the world. Rather than rejecting the past, this project uses rebellion as a way to preserve identity and give Uzbek traditions a stronger voice in contemporary fashion.

Sahibkiran is a menswear collection inspired by the powerful historical legacy of Amir Timur, reinterpreted through the surrealist language of Elsa Schiaparelli.
The collection explores the blurred boundaries between hero and villain, presenting Amir Timur as an ambiguous historical figure immortalized as a monumental symbol of power.
Sculptural silhouettes, emphasized shoulders, sharp tailoring, and expressive curves draw inspiration from the strength and monumentality of historical statues. The body becomes a living monument, shaping the silhouette of a hero.

Broken Balance is a project that explores memory, loss, and identity through the lens of cotton and the Aral Sea.
The collection is inspired by my grandmother’s stories of picking cotton during the Soviet era, when many people were forced to sacrifice their dreams and opportunities, as well as by the environmental disaster of the Aral Sea, caused by the disruption of the natural balance.
Through four looks, I bring these two stories together to preserve the memory of the past, appreciate what we have today, and rethink the choices we make for the future.

Merging Selves is a collection about the distortion of self-perception, the complex relationship between mother and daughter, and the acceptance of every inner facet of one’s identity.
The collection is built around old garments from the designer’s mother’s wardrobe, which have been given a new life by combining and transforming them into new pieces. Each look carries its own character and individuality, reflecting the different sides of the self.
